Pygmalion
by G.B. Shaw
Duration: 2 hours, 35 minutes (with a 20-minute interval)
In George Bernard Shaw’s comedy Pygmalion, we witness the transformation of a common cockney flower girl into a fair lady. When Professor Higgins, a phoneticist, discovers Eliza Doolittle selling flowers on the streets of London, he brags that he can “pass off the squashed cabbage leaf as the Queen of Sheba!” Higgins accepts the bet of his friend, Colonel Pickering, and undertakes to transform the common flower-girl into a duchess suited for polite society. The only thing he overlooks is that his ‘creation’ has a mind of her own.
